Dietary changes have been known to combat insomnia. Many people who have a known sleep disorder try other methods of dealing with the condition like changes in their lifestyle and diet changes. Added to this is also the new wave of treatment like dietary supplements. Dietary supplements are like vitamin supplements that a body needs to function better. All the food that we ingest has some form of dietary value but the quantity and the form that you take it in may not be conducive to your body and the ingested nutrient may not be as well absorbed by the body thus making the body fall short of that nutrient.
Like with vitamin supplements that we give our body there are dietary supplements that one can take that are known to help improve a person's sleep cycle. The most popular dietary supplement that is known to help fall asleep is melatonin. Hormone that is produced mostly during the night it is a known sleep aid. While food is the best method of providing the body with the requisite nutrients adding supplements to compensate a deficiency can also help and with people who work during the night or have sleep disorders or are jetlagged this supplemented taken in the recommended dosage can help induce and maintain sleep. Some people can tolerate it but there are few who might experience nausea, headaches, tiresomeness and depression on taking this as a supplement. Homeopathy can be a method of filling in supplements to treat sleep disorders.
This form of alternative medicines uses diluted amounts of supplements used over a period of time so as to slowly provide the body with the nutrients released in a phase wise manner. Thus increasing the level of tolerance. Popular remedies to treat insomnia in homeopathy have been Arsenicum album, Nux vomica, chamomilla, Lycopodium, coffea arabica or coffea cruda. Dietary supplements must be taken with the dosage they are prescribed in and not to take more, which can lead to side effects. Since these are not approved or assessed by the FDA and are food nutrients there is no way of ensuring the purity or the efficiency of a particular brand or name. Care should be taken that these supplements are not used for long periods and if there has been no significant change in the sleep cycle and the supplements do not seem to be working then it is best to stop taking them and take some medical advise.
