Sleep is not a waste of time. Infect it has many health benefits and can help rejuvenate one mentally and physically. Sleep is the body's method of recharge after the stress of the day and this not only gives the brain time to reenergize but all the other body mechanisms like the immune system and the endocrinal system are reactivated for another day. Hence while there apparently seems to be no activity going on the body is internally repairing the damage of the day. There are a lot of tips to get a good night's sleep and these may not be applicable to people with medical problems or small children. Factors like drowsiness, daytime sleepiness, lack of energy in the morning and depression and sleeplessness during the night may be temporary factors that can be combated if the problem is persistent it may be advisable to consult a physician to look into it.
1.The body maintains an internal clock by which it functions to regulate our daily mechanisms; this is called the circadian rhythm. Trying to stick to that internal schedule is to maintain constancy in our general habits of sleeping and waking so as to not upset the body's rhythm and cause any health issues.
2.Having a healthy sleep routine can help one a great deal. To get a good night's sleep it is good to fall into a relaxation mode and this may vary from person to person. But lot of people fined a warm bath or a book or some soothing music to work well for them. This depends on individual taste and it might be good to follow what suits one best. Avoiding disturbing or stimulating activities that heighten the stress and tension levels so as to even out the mind's way into relaxation.
3. Having a sleep conducive atmosphere that helps in aiding the mind to relax before going to bed is good. Making sure that the bedroom is relaxing and the atmosphere in it is conducive to sleep. Some people like to sleep in total darkness and some like to have some form of light which ever works for you is the best and make sure that whatever the choice it is good for you to get a restful night's sleep and doesn't disturb your sleep routine.
4.Having a comfortable and inviting bed is as important as having the right ambience in the bedroom. So choosing the right bedding material that caters to your specifications will help you get a good sleep.
5.The bedroom is a place to relax and recharge so it is good to keep out any work tensions or other stress out of it. Never bring your stress into the bedroom in the form of work or any troubles that could leave you feeling tense or stressed before bedtime.
6. Try and make sure that you have a light meal well before your bedtime preferably about 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. Watching what one eats before bedtime is also important as some kinds of food may cause indigestion or irritates the stomach and thus disturbs the sleep cycle.
7. Getting exercise during the day is good for the body and this will help in getting a good night's sleep. Care must be taken to see that one doesn't get stressed out doing an exercise routine before bedtime. Exercise makes one more alert and heats up the metabolism and so doing this before bedtime can disrupt the sleep pattern.
8.Avoiding stimulants like caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, carbonated drinks and such can be great for overall health and can help the body get a good sleep during the night. Having a warm cup of milk or any non fat yogurt or diary product has been known to help fall asleep better as well as have health benefits as opposed to coffee, tea and alcohol.
While these may be used for the general public it is also mandatory that if the symptoms of sleeplessness during the night and sleepiness during the day persist then you must consult a physician or a sleep specialist to take a look at your condition and diagnose whether you have a sleep disorder or not.
